Gannon SBDC to Present Intellectual Property Seminar

Published: 16-May-2019

Many industries in the information economy—software, television studios, pharmaceuticals—are built on intellectual property (IP). Yet almost every business has some sort of IP whether they know it or not, and these assets can be vital to a business’ success.

To help business owners understand their IP and how to protect it,  Gannon SBDC will offer Intellectual Property: Copyrights, Patents, Trademarks, and Trade Secrets, Wednesday, June 12, 10—11:30 a.m. at Gannon University’s Center for Business Ingenuity 900 State Street, Suite 104, Erie, Pennsylvania 16501.

This seminar will cover the basic principles of copyrights, patents, trademarks and trade secrets to give attendees a summary of what each does and how each is secured. The presentation is intended as a first glance overview of IP, and can serve as a refresher for those with some familiarity with the topic. The seminar will cover the various types of IP, how to register/apply for each, the various deadlines and requirements for filing and pitfalls and concerns to keep in mind.

Jon D'SilvaThe seminar will be presented by Jonathan M. D'Silva, manager of the law firm MMI Intellectual Property. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering degrees in agricultural and biological engineering from Cornell University. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University at Buffalo School of Law. He is a Registered Patent Attorney and admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania, New York, and the District of Columbia. His practice covers all aspects of intellectual property law from prosecuting patent, trademark and copyright applications, to drafting agreements for the sale or licensing of intellectual property, to the enforcement of intellectual property rights.
